How long is a class?

Each class is 50 minutes. Private sessions are 55 minutes. Class starts and ends on time.

Is Pilates a workout?

Yes! In the beginning the emphasis is on form. As you progress, classes increase in pace and athleticism. Beginning does not mean easy… You will feel it the next day.

Will Pilates help me lose weight?

Pilates strengthens, tones and re-aligns your body. It will improve your body composition and muscle tone. All weight loss requires strength training, cardio and diet. We give you the strength training.

Can I do Pilates if I’m out of shape or overweight?

Yes! Pilates is for every body! We recommend if you have been away from exercise for a long period that you begin with the Restore Program.

What if I have an injury or a medical condition that might affect my exercise?

Tell your instructor! Please get your doctor’s approval before starting any exercise program.  Once you have the doctor’s permission to return to exercise, pilates is an excellent way to strengthen and better align your body after injury so that you can return to the sports and activities you enjoy.  Our staff has been trained to help clients recover from many common injuries, including shoulder replacements, mobility after mastectomy or mammoplasty, knee and hip replacements, ACL tears, pelvic floor reconstruction, and spinal injuries.  Our individualized, alignment-focused approach also makes pilates ideal for clients dealing with scoliosis, stenosis, arthritis, osteoporosis, Parkinson’s and other chronic conditions.

What should I tell my instructor about if she asks about any injuries?

Let us know about anything that may impact your current ability to exercise.

What if I’m pregnant or post-partum?

Please let us know! You should not begin Pilates for the first time while pregnant.  If you are post-partum please speak with your doctor about whether you are healthy enough for Pilates.

When can I move to a more advanced level?

Your instructor will let you know when you are prepared to advance to the next level.

Can I wear socks? Why don’t you require socks?

You can wear grippy socks. Classical pilates requires the use of your toes and some socks do not allow for adequate movement of the feet.

How often should I do Pilates?

We recommend a mat class and at least one equipment class each week.

Why are private sessions required to start?

This ensures that we get to know you, your body and your experience. It is a great way to get personalized attention at a great rate!

I’m really fit, can I start in Core level classes?

Generally no, all clients must complete the introductory package and learn the classical syllabus from Essentials forward.  This is a methodology that works. Let us show you how!

I’ve done Mat Pilates for 10 years, can I start in Core level classes?

Possibly, but please take the introductory package and we will place you in the appropriate level. The exercises will be different for each apparatus.

Do I have to take mat classes?

It is not required, but the Mat is the basis for all Pilates therefore we highly recommend it.
