Pilates at the Core is a Classical Pilates studio in a boutique environment. Our classes are leveled based on knowledge of the classical syllabus as well as ability. In order to keep the integrity of our levels, we strongly encourage all new students to begin with an introductory package of two private sessions. This is a great way to begin your journey with private attention from our certified instructors. This allows you to begin classes in the level most appropriate for you. Let us convince you!

What should I expect when I come to a class?
You should come to a class wearing close fit, comfortable clothing and with your hair up. Especially for equipment classes loose fitting clothing or hair can be a safety hazard. We encourage bare feet, but will compromise on toe socks with grip if you insist. Your water bottle is your other essential piece of equipment, but we have a place for you to fill it up if needed.
Classes start promptly on time, and arriving a few minutes early is a good idea. This gives you a chance to grab your favorite reformer, get settled in, and for your teacher to check in with you about any injuries or other special concerns since your last class. After a certain point you will not be allowed into class if late.
Once class starts expect to be in motion for the next 50 minutes! You will work all the major muscle groups of your body and move your spine in every direction. Pilates is a systematic, full body workout. Your teacher may also have a special area of focus for the class, but that doesn’t mean anything will get left out!
In classical Pilates you’ll also notice a lot of the same exercises recurring from class to class, with some variety sprinkled in. This gives you a great way to see how your body changes and grows stronger over time!
Group classes run for 50 minutes.
What should I expect when I come to a private session?
The expectations for timeliness, clothing, and hydration are the same as for group classes. In a private training session your instructor is teaching just to you! You can expect a lot more focus on form and “tweaking” exercises to make them optimal for your body. You should expect to do some work on the mat, reformer, and at least one other piece of equipment. If you have specific goals or concerns you should definitely share them with the teacher, they’re ready to tailor your session just to you!
Private training sessions run for 55 minutes.
How do I book?
We use a booking platform called Momence to book classes and private training sessions. If you use the “Book” link at the top of the screen it will take you to the calendar. You will need to create a Momence account. Once you’re signed up you can access Momence via the web or on the Momence app (use your email to automatically connect with our studio).
Some classes, like Essentials and Restore, will allow you to book as a drop in, meaning you can sign up for a single class, pay the drop in fee, and come. Most studio participants purchase blocks of classes called Packages. Buying 5 or 10 credits at once will get you a discount compared to the drop in rate, and then you can use those credits to sign up for classes as needed. Credits are good for a defined period (30 or 60 days) after purchase and then they expire.
We also have two recurring memberships, Joe’s Club and Restore. These are automatically charged every month on the first. Joe’s Club is a package of credits (6 equipment classes, 3 mat classes, and a private training session with a certified instructor) that are good for that month only. Restore gives you unlimited access to Restore classes for that month.
If you’re having trouble booking contact Judy at judy@pilatesatthecore.com and she’ll walk you through it!
Why do I have to start with two private training sessions?
At PATC we pride ourselves on giving you individual attention, even in group classes, and in getting to know you and what your body needs. These private training sessions help us get a head start! They also allow us to help you get oriented to the equipment so that when you start in a class you’re ready to make a seamless transition.
We hope that by pricing these private training sessions at a steep discount they feel like a treat rather than a requirement!
How often should I come to Pilates?
The short answer is twice a week to maintain, three times a week to see progress. The longer answer is all movement is good movement, and your body will benefit even if you come less often than that! If you want to come more, great! Especially for mat class you can’t come too often because of the low-impact nature of Pilates, and some of us really love taking two classes in a row.
We also believe how often you come is important, but what classes you come to is even more important. Classical Pilates is a system, and if you’re only ever coming to one type of class you’re not going to get the full benefits of the system. We recommend coming to a variety of Mat, Reformer, and Tower classes. Programs like Joe’s Club are set up to encourage this variety as affordably as possible.
